Elden Ring Mohg boss fight walkthrough: How to beat Mohg, Lord of Blood

Want to know how to beat Mohg, Lord of Blood in Elden Ring? Mohg, Lord of Blood is the harder version of Mohg, the Omen, and one of the last bosses most players will find in Elden Ring. Mohg’s two forms share most of their attacks, but the Lord of Blood fight includes a more difficult second phase, plus a deadly transition attack. If you aren’t prepared to deal with the Lord of Blood it is easy to get run over, but there are some items that make this fight significantly easier. This guide will give you everything you need to find and defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood.

Where to find Mohg, Lord of Blood in Elden Ring

Mohg, Lord of Blood, is found within Mohgwyn Palace. To reach Mohgwyn Palace, you must get the Haligtree Secret Medallion and use it at the Grand Lift of Rold, found East of Leyndell through the Forbidden Lands. If you want to take Mohg on early, you can also reach Mohgwyn Palace via Varre's quest line. Keep in mind that Mohg, Lord of Blood is intended to be a late game boss, so you may find yourself struggling if you use Varre to arrive before level 100. The Consecrated Snowfield path is more level approriate.

The Haligtree Secret Medallion is split into two parts. Haligtree Secret Medallion (right) is found in the Village of the Albinaurics in the southwest of Liurnia. When you're there, hit a pot near the Site of Grace to reveal a man named Albus, who gives you this left half of the medallion. The Haligtree Secret Medallion (left) is located on the battlements at the end of Castle Sol, in the North of the Mountaintops of the Giants. Both of these locations have bosses that you'll need to face, so make sure you are using one of the best builds in Elden Ring to overcome these challenges.

Upon reaching the Consecrated Snowfield, you can continue through Ordina, Liturgical Town, to reach Miquella's Haligtree and fight another demigod called Malenia, Blade of Miquella. However, if you head West through the Consecrated Snowfields, you will eventually find a hidden teleporter that leads to Mohgwyn Palace. This teleporter is found along the Western edge of the snowfields, near where the Sanguine Noble invades. Defeat the Sanguine Noble and use the teleporter to travel to Mohgwyn Palace. You can find the exact location on the map above.

Mohgwyn Palace is a domain of death and destruction located underground, but you'll find that it is actually a fairly small zone. Cross the pools of blood towards the central palace mausoleum, then traverse the tunnels to reach the top. You'll find Mohg at the top of an elevator just after the Mausoleum Midpoint Site of Grace.

Mogh, Lord of Blood has two distinct phases. In the first, he is fairly immobile and easy to hit. However, most of his attacks cause Blood Loss build-up, including the dangerous Bloodflame attacks. These will incur Blood Loss and deal damage over time. Once you’ve gotten a feel for the phase though, most of these attacks are fairly easy to avoid.

The fight starts to get tricky during the phase transition, at around 50% of Mohg’s health. During the first half of the fight, Mohg will count down and create circular, red marks over the player’s head. Shortly after applying the third Mark, Mohg will shout “Nihil!” consuming one of the marks to deal massive damage. He will repeat this two more times and deal enough damage to kill most builds if you don’t mitigate or offset the damage. We’ll walk through ways to do this in the tips section below.

In his second phase, Mohg, Lord of Blood is far more mobile. He will occasionally fly up into the air before swooping down with his trident and a spurt of Bloodflame. His combos are longer and his attacks are more dangerous in this stage. Managing the arena also gets tricky, as Mogh leaves pools of Bloodflame scattered about. This is a tricky fight, but you can manage it with the tips below.

How to beat Mohg, Lord of Blood: top tips for success

Here are our top tips for victory in the Mohg boss fight.

1. Use the Purifying Crystal tear to reduce Nihil’s damage

1. Use the Purifying Crystal tear to reduce Nihil’s damage

The best solution to Nihil’s damage is the Purifying Crystal Tear. Mix this into your Flask of Wondrous Physick and drink it to gain a buff that massively reduces the spell’s damage. This won’t nullify Mohg’s healing, but it will save you a couple of healing flask charges. In the difficult second phase, that can be the difference between life and death.

Of course, to use the Purifying Crystal Tear you will first have to find it. The Tear is a reward from the later stages of Bloody Finger Hunter Yura’s quest. You’ll need to meet Yura at the Second Church of Marika on Altus Plateau, and help him defeat Bloody Finger Eleonara. 2. Heal through Nihil

The more obvious if less efficient solution to Nihil’s damage is to just heal through it. The ability hits pretty hard, but you can heal between the three casts. If you’ve upgraded your Flask of Crimson Tears to +12 by finding all the Sacred Tears, you can make up for most of the lost health with two charges. It's easier to afford those flask charges if you have the max of 14, so track down more Golden Seeds if you aren’t quite there. This is far from an elegant solution, but it gets the job done.

3. Use Mohg’s Shackle for free damage

Mohg’s Shackle is a helpful tool for the fight, and can get you through the first phase quicker. It functions much like Margit’s Shackle, which you may have found during the Patches quest. Activate the Shackle to lock Mohg in place and earn a free crit, securing some safe damage in the first phase. Unfortunately, the Shackle only works when Mohg’s health is nearly full, so they won’t work in the second phase. Still, free damage is free damage.

You can find the Shackles deep in the Subterranean Shunning Grounds. Head down to the bottom of the sewer area to find them under a spewing pipe in the far southeast of the room. You can reach them fastest from the Underground Roadside Site of Grace.

4. Unlock your camera

Many of Mohg’s attacks leave pools of Bloodflame around the arena that deal damage over time and inflict the Blood Loss status. The direct damage isn’t very high, but if you roll into the flames after taking a hit you will be met with a frustrating death. The Blood Loss build-up is even more problematic, and can easily kill you after a brief misstep.

Avoiding this requires a lot of awareness, and that’s easier to maintain if you aren’t always staring straight at Mohg. The locked-on camera view is nice for keeping track of the boss, especially when he begins flying about. However, it also makes it harder to keep tabs on nearby flames. If you find yourself circle-strafing to your death, consider avoiding lock-on to get a more holistic view of the arena.
